Script Anaylisis

1. Is it the same as the script?

On the script the change is that there is no lobby scene or dialogue. Also there are a few words not said in the actual film.

2. Any changes?

Apart from the scene being taken out, no.

3. Does the script portray what you expect to see in the film?

Yes it does

1. What is their name?

After introductions, their names are, Jerry, Carl and Grimsrud

2. What type of words describes this person?

Jerry is your average Joe, quiet, nervous, well to do. Carl has a quick jip about him, confident, knows what he wants. And Grimsrud comes across as the tough man sitting quietly looking all mean.

3. Can you tell from this sequence the role of this character? I.e. are they a protagonist/Antagonist?

You can not completely tell if any of the characters are protagonists, but you can begin to form an opinion on the Carl character, as being an Antagonist.

4. How do you know this?

The way they all come across, and not much is given away at the beginning.

Which character from a thriller film is your character most likened to?

I think this character is best compared to the lead out of Payback, The Transporter,
Protagonist
Or
Antagonist?
Michael Corleone
Al Pacino

“Michael is the youngest son of Don Vito Corleone (played by Marlon Brando in The Godfather and Robert De Niro in The Godfather Part II). He is the youngest brother of Sonny and Fredo. He becomes the new Don of the Corleone crime family towards the end of Part I, when his father dies.“ Quote from

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Corleone

His flaws are his ties to the family and their undeniable history with violence and corruption. Mruder, Lies and money are all too present with Michael, but so is the overwhelming aim to become “ legitamate “. This begs the question to what is Michael Corleone, a Antagonist or a Protagonist?

A Antagonists Profile

A Antagonists Profile
Mr Blonde
Michael Madsen

A recently paroled criminal is hired by a top gangster. This criminal is called Vincent Vega, played by Michael Madsen, or Mr Blonde as he is known in the film. Mr Blonde makes the vital error whilst the team are carrying out a jewellery heist.
This error involves him threatening to take out the entire store which in turn forces the rest of the team to flee. The following events all lead up to a poignant scene where Mr Blonde cuts of a police mans ear of, who had been taken hostage.
I think Mr Blonde is flawed by his over whelming violent streak and blood lust.Mr Blonde plays a vital role, in setting up the story in the beginning and towards the end of the film, Mr Blonde’s actions cause dramatic events.

A Protagonists Profile
Serpico
Al Pacino

“Frank Serpico! The first police officer not only in the history of the New York Police Department, but in the history of any police department in the whole United States, to step forward to report and subsequently testify openly about widespread, systematic cop corruption-payoffs amounting to millions of dollars.”
A Quote from, -Peter Maas, author of the biography Serpico.

Frank Serpico is the leading role in this film. This is a film about his life between the times of him graduating to the police force to his near demise around ten years later.
He was forever fighting the causes of police corruption and brutality and with no or little prevail, things began to worsen.
I can only think that Frank Serpico was flawed in the way of his defiance to comply with what was going on around him, which some people will agree with and some won’t.
Also the stress of this going on in his life leaves others in his life at the edge of his personal surroundings.

The whole film is about this period in his life, and how the affect of the events around him take their toll on Frank Serpico and the constant frustration.

Thriller

Thriller

A Thriller is a type of genre used in Television, Film and Literature which contains many sub-genres. Thrillers often take place in exotic locations and surroundings. The sets are mostly always vast and extravagant. Hard men and gorgeous women are used a lot in Thrillers.

Examples of thrillers are: Psycho (1960), Jaws (1975), Silence of the Lambs (1991) The Usual Suspects (1995) Dr. No (1962) Fight Club ( 1999)

There are many different types of Thriller Sub Genres. Some of these are,

Action thriller - In which the work often features a race against the clock, contains lots of violence, and an obvious antagonist. These films usually contain large amounts of guns, explosions, and large elaborate set pieces for the action to take place. These films often have elements of mystery films and crime films but these elements take a backseat to action. Notable examples are the James Bond films, The Transporter, and the Jason Bourne novels and films.

Crime thriller - This particular genre is a hybrid type of both crime films and thrillers that offers a suspenseful account of a successful or failed crime or crimes. These films often focus on the criminal(s) rather than a policeman. Crime thrillers usually emphasize action over psychological aspects. Central topics of these films include murders, robberies, chases, shootouts, and double-crosses are central ingredients. Some examples include The Killing, Seven, Reservoir Dogs, Inside Man, and The Asphalt Jungle.

Erotic thriller - In which it consists of erotica and thriller. It has become popular since the 1980s and the rise of VCR market penetration. The genre includes such films as Basic Instinct, Fatal Attraction, Looking for Mr. Goodbar, and In the Cut.

Psychological thriller - In which (until the often violent resolution) the conflict between the main characters is mental and emotional, rather than physical. The Alfred Hitchcock films Suspicion, Shadow of a Doubt, and Strangers on a Train and David Lynch's bizarre and influential Blue Velvet are notable examples of the type, as is The Sixth Sense by M. Night Shyamalan and The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith (who also wrote Strangers).
